Flexible Touchscreens

Flexible touchscreens are poised to change the way we view our media.

Currently, most touchscreens have rigid glass faces to protect the thin coating of electrically conductive metals buried with in the device, but the glass itself can break and it also adds unnecessary weight.

New touchscreens made with gold and silver nanowires will solve these problems and create a device that will be lighter, less bulky, much more flexible and produced more efficiently than the older models. In addition to these benefits, the new technology will also be less expensive! Having a product coated with silver and gold sounds expensive, but, the amount of precious metals used in each device will be so small that it will not significantly raise the cost. The big cost saver with this technology is the efficiency of production. Production is similar to printing newspapers, it's a quick and efficient roll to roll process.

Imagine dropping your Ipod, cellphone or gps... Your first inclination is to cringe, quickly pick it up and access the damage. The rigid screens can be easily damaged, but, dropping a flexible touchsreen device is not nearly as frightening. Not only can these screens be bent, flexed, folded and dropped without breaking, they will still conduct an electrical charge. These devices will be able to truly never miss a beat.

Theses devices are expected to be on the market in short order. The technology is likely to be seen in not only devices that use touchscreens, like computers, cell phones, gps units and organizers, but also in solar panels.
